Mandatory Riding Gears... Shot down in Congress!!!

Posted on 08:33 by Unknown
UPDATES UPDATES UPDATES!!!

Just found out who the proponent (the group who advised the author of the bill to make riding gears mandatory) of this mandate really is... All I can say is I am not surprised...

After reviewing the transcripts of the bill hearing, it is clear that they did not fully understand the full implication of the said mandate and how it can affect one while riding nor do they see how vulnerable this law is to subjective apprehension, selective treatment and how prone to self-interpretation this is... Again, I am seeing this as a partial return of the old AHS-2008-015 that we fought against...

When the section on full gears got shot down, they even returned with what they were aiming for was just knee and elbow protection... Maybe pants and a wind breaker... Clearly this was ill advised as economic and physical conditions were never considered...

However, the way it was written is as vague as the old AHS-2008-015 laws back in 2008... Another huge can of worms being opened up if you ask me...

Question, will that prevent an accident? Will that save a life? Will that prevent injury? Care to share numbers and studies on that?

Anyway, the GOOD NEWS...

As per the hearing facilitator, everybody in the transport committee agreed on removing this section on rider gear and stay with the mandatory motorcycle helmet and closed toe and heel foot wear for riders...

So my fellow riders, this is not going to be part of this proposed bill anymore...

Nevertheless, I am still weary about the advisers that these authors have as they are claiming expertise on anything related to motorcycles... If they are truly the experts as they say they are and they are the representatives of the community as they say they are, they should at least hear everybody's opinion out or at least allow the community to voice out their convictions and feelings about what they want to happen with us...

Let me ask you this, do you want people to dictate whats best for you or do you want to have a consensus first before anything is delivered to the legislators?

Your choice...

For the sake of the community that these advisers so eloquently declare to represent, I will keep the knowledge about these proponents to my self as I do not seek to divide the community, but I wish that they stop misrepresenting us rather, get us involved and hear us out before they put any bold and illogical suggestions out on a plate for the legislators to pass on to congress...

Again, the proposal to mandate rider gear has been stricken out of the bill and the legislators have decided to only keep the original mandate for helmets and footwear...

Thank God!
